The story
A violin in steel
The violin is forged entirely in dark steel and laid on red velvet. An instrument that plays to the eye only.
In August 2011 Bruno Kalčič and Gregor Mandeljc presented it at Hefaiston, the 30th international meeting of artist blacksmiths at Helfštýn Castle in the Czech Republic. The expert jury awarded it 2nd prize in the demonstrated works category. The Czech certificate reads: Heavymetalové housle, the heavy-metal violin.
We do not forge pieces like this for a catalogue. We forge them because they show where the limit of the craft lies: how far a hammer can take hard material. The same hand that forged the violin forges your railing.
